President Obama has attempted to paint Chuck Hagel as a bipartisan choice. However, the criticism is what is bipartisan. Republican Senators, including former colleagues, have painted Sen. Hagel as anti-Israel and pro-Iran. Democratic Senators are not helping either, they say the nominee is anti-gay. Republican Senators are saying they will make the confirmation into a fight. The two Republican Senators leading the charge are John McCain and Lindsay Graham. The two tried to fight the White House earlier over Cabinet choices, but over the Secretary of State. The two Senators were against Susan Rice being Secretary of State, and eventually she withdrew herself from consideration.
