Twenty Twelve for July 8, 2012

Hello, and welcome to Twenty Twelve on TKNN. There are quite a few big stories we’re watching, so let’s get started.

So we begin with Rep. Barney Frank who got married to his partner, Jim Ready. He is the first member of Congress to partake in a same-sex marriage. The ceremony took place Saturday and was officiated by Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick. Rep. Frank is retiring at the end of his term.
Rep. Thaddeus McCotter has resigned. The short-lived presidential candidate announced his resignation after he would not be on the ballot as the Republican nominee in his home district. Too many of his signatures were fraudulent. He originally planned to mount a write-in campaign, but he decided not to do it.
On CNN’s State of the Union, Republican Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell said today that the Republicans have a 50-50 chance of taking the Senate.
Well that wraps Twenty Twelve. When it comes to the election we’re your show.
