The political newspaper and website Politico has confirmed that President Obama has picked Charlotte, North Carolina, Mayor Anthony Foxx to succeed Secretary Ray LaHood as the Secretary of Transportation. Mayor Foxx came to prominence when the Democrats held their national convention last year and he announced a new street car initiative. Secretary LaHood has said that he would be leaving during President Obama’s second term, but would stay until a successor is confirmed. Foxx, a Democrat in comparison to the Republican LaHood, had announced he would not be running for re-election. This was seen as many as sign that he was in the running to be in the Cabinet.

Some sources are saying that President is planning on announcing new nominees for Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative.
