President Obama, similar to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, is giving back five percent of his pay. Secretary Hagel is giving up fourteen days of pay, just like the sequester-induced furloughs. The two men are giving up partial pay due to the sequester. They pay is not effected, but they are voluntarily doing this. President Obama’s $400,000 salary cannot be changed during his term, so he will cut a check of $20,000 to the government.
