road to the white houseDr. Ben Carson, the famed neurosurgeon, has announced he will run for President. Carson had previously started an exploratory committee to look at a presidential bid.

Carson confirmed the run in an interview with WKRC in Cincinnati which is part of the Sinclair Broadcasting Group. The Sinclair Broadcasting Group has long been accused of a conservative bias. Carson confirmed in the interview that he would be formally announcing his run tomorrow. He will announce it in his hometown of Detroit, at the Detroit Music Hall. He said, “I’m willing to be a part of the equation, and, therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.”

Dr. Carson became well-known in conservative circles following his remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast in 2013. He spoke at the traditionally nonpartisan event and criticized President Obama over Obamacare. This made him a hero in conservative circles and he stated that he was looking at running for President. Dr. Carson has not held any elected office prior to his presidential run.

While Dr. Carson was registering in the double digits for a period of time, his national polls put him at about five percent.

Dr. Carson will announce his bid tomorrow in Detroit and then fly to Texas. Dr. Carson’s mother has fallen ill so he is traveling to be with her. The campaign has cancelled his events in Iowa on Monday, but is hoping to keep his Tuesday events. On Twitter, Rep. Rod Blum (R-IA) has been advertising his meet-and-greet with the Doctor.
