There are unconfirmed reports that Cory Booker is planning on announcing a Senate run on Saturday. He would be running in the special election that was caused by the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. There is a rush to announce Senate runs, the deadline for the 1,000 signatures needed to be on the ballot is Monday. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced that the special election would be held in October. Christie also announced that his appointee, Jeffrey Chiesa, would not be running in said special election. Running for the Senate would cause Booker to back off his promise to complete his term as Newark mayor. However, Booker is still favorite in the primary and general election. But, Booker does have some competition in the primary. Representative Rush Holt announced he would be running for the seat, and Rep. Frank Pallone is expected to get in and has been talking to other Democrats in the state.
