Americans Elect Starts Allowing Candidates

Americans Elect, the online presidential nomination process, has begun allowing candidates to run for the nomination. Candidates can run, or be drafted. The top two supported candidates are both Republicans, and have both run or are running for president. Those two are Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman. At the time of writing, no candidate has announced a run, however there are people expected to declare. A special committee must approve the candidates. There are less than ninety days until the first ballot for Americans Elect, and then the field will begin narrowing. Once Americans Elect has a nominee, they must choose someone of the opposite party as their running mate. This act completely misses the point of the 12th Amendment, which makes the President and Vice President a package deal, as in the same party.
