Well, it’s time for our Short and Sweet Stories, our top stories condensed.

Today is Debate Night in America, as President Obama and Mitt Romney face-off for the first time. This is the first of three presidential debates, and the moderator for tonight’s debate is Jim Lehrer of PBS News. About half of the debate will focus on the economy, with other topics including health care and the government.

Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida says that Vice President Biden is the best thing that Republicans have going for them. Vice President Biden spoke yesterday about how the middle class has been buried the past four years. After repeating that statement to the audience, he told them not to boo because Vice President Biden is a help.

A new poll from the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling has Sen. Claire McCaskill ahead by nine percentage points over Rep. Todd Akin. The deadline for Rep. Akin to leave the race has past, and Sen. McCaskill has used his “legitimate rape” comment against him.
