HLN Slots New Shows for Cupp, Costello 1

170504153446-hln-logo-card-may-2017-super-teaseHLN has announced the premiere date and timeslots for the new shows with S.E. Cupp and Carol Costello. Both shows will premiere on August 21. Across America with Carol Costello will air from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. ET and S.E. Cupp Unfiltered will air from 7 P.M. to 8 P.M. ET. Costello’s show airs every weekday, but Cupp’s show will only air Monday through Thursday. While that scheduling is odd for most of cable news, it is not for HLN. Primetime Justice with Ashleigh Banfield (which follows Cupp in the schedule) only airs Monday through Thursday as well.

“Adding Carol and S.E. to HLN further strengthens our powerful bench of journalists and hosts, and delivers on the network’s promise to add more live hours of news programming,” Ken Jautz, the executive vice president at CNN in charge of HLN, said in a statement.

“Carol and S.E. are two of the most respected and recognized voices in the business, and we’re excited to bring their smarts and passion to the HLN audience.”

Cupp’s show will be a panel show, a format Cupp has experience with because of her prior shows of CNN’s Crossfire and MSNBC’s The Cycle. HLN says her show will focus on the daily political news, but also human interest and legal stories. Andy Levy, who left Fox News earlier this year after a decade, is joining HLN as a senior producer for Cupp’s show. Levy will also take part as a regular panelist. He and Cupp previously appeared together on Fox News’s Red Eye, a late night comedy panel show that ended earlier this year.

Costello’s show will air from Los Angeles while Cupp’s will air from New York.

The move comes as HLN tries to reduce its dependence on reruns of Forensic Files, a true crime documentary series that takes up most of HLN’s schedule currently. As HLN underwent a transformation from courtroom-focused to social media-driven and now back to general news, Forensic Files has been a constant. HLN has added more hours of live programming and also has been airing more taped original series, like sister network CNN. One original series, The Hunt with John Walsh, got its start on CNN but recently moved to HLN for its new episodes.

As a result of the move, Michaela will shift from a West Coast morning news timeslot to early afternoon. However, a HLN spokesperson told TKNN that there would not be changes for the show. “What makes  [Michaela Pereira] great, stays. Her show continues to be a conversation about the people and passion driving the headlines, with issue driven conversation, lively guests and breaking news,” spokesperson Alison Rudnick told TKNN.

HLN had previously announced general or specific premiere dates for Cupp and Costello’s shows, however those ended up not happening. Costello’s show was originally supposed to premiere in April, then it was said to be June, and now August.

How HLN’s schedule will look (all times ET):

6 A.M. – 11 A.M.: Morning Express with Robin Meade

11 A.M. – 1 P.M.: Across America with Carol Costello

1 P.M. – 3 P.M.: On the Story with Erica Hill

3 P.M. – 5 P.M.: Michaela

5 P.M. – 7 P.M.: CNN or HLN Original Series or Forensic Files

7 P.M. – 8 P.M.: S.E. Cupp Unfiltered (Monday through Thursday)

8 P.M. – 9 P.M.: Primetime Justice with Ashleigh Banfield (Monday through Thursday)
