Earlier today, NBC’s Chuck Todd, who also anchors The Daily Rundown on MSNBC, took a veiled shot against competitor CNN and its coverage of missing flight 370. Apparently, taking veiled shots at CNN for its coverage is commonplace amongst rivals of the news network which has been dedicating large amounts of time to the mystery. Chuck Todd criticized the network for making breaking news out of “NOTHING.” While Todd does have a point about cable news’ overuse of the term breaking news, that is shared amongst all the networks, not solely CNN.
Wait, so when did finding NOTHING get characterized as “breaking news”?

@stevekmccoy fwiw, we at @dailyrundown are VERY judicious with the “breaking news” banner. Want it to actually MEAN something

However, CNN was able to get the last laugh in this cable news fight. Vaughn Sterling, who is the senior producer of The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, found a picture of MSNBC literally calling the finding of nothing, breaking news.
@chucktodd Great question Chuck! Looks like it was around 6:45p: pic.twitter.com/ycO5gfN9lY
