Former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer has announced he will not be running for the Senate in Montana. The Democrat was seen as the party’s best hope to keep the seat of the retiring Sen. Max Baucus. Several progressive groups, such as the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, worked to try to convince him to run, even holding rallies. Democrats, too, believed he would run, reportedly as recently as last week. However, further digging into the potential candidate made his candidacy seem more shaky, and in the end, Schweitzer decided it wasn’t worth it.
