TKNN Reports for October 21, 2012

Hello, and welcome to TKNN Reports. Now, today we’re looking at the debates, and equal pay.

Now, we move onto the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. It was the first law signed by President Obama, and it has largely been absent of political arguing. However, that changed today as both Vice Presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan said the law opens up to lawsuits. Romney surrogate Sen. Marco Rubio said the law “In fact, much of this legislation is, in many respects, nothing but an effort to help trial lawyers collect their fees and file lawsuits, which may not contribute at all whatsoever to increasing pay equity in the workplace… .” Sen. Rubio made the remarks on ABC’s This Week.
Sad news to report as we learned former Sen. George McGovern died. The former presidential nominee was 90. Sen. McGovern served three terms in the Senate, but he may be best known for his landslide loss against President Richard Nixon in 1972. He also ran for President in 1984, but failed to gain traction. Since then, he has fought against wars and hunger. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Clinton.
This week, there are two debates between presidential candidates. One is on Monday, which is the final presidential debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney. The debate focuses on foreign policy, and is moderated by CBS’s Bob Scheiffer. Then, on Tuesday there is the third party debate moderated by Larry King. The debate is including Gary Johnson, Libertarian Party; Jill Stein, Green Party; Virgil Goode, Constitution Party; and Rocky Anderson, Justice Party. None of the major networks are carrying the debate, but you can catch it on Hulu, Larry King’s Ora.Tv, Al Jazeera, and Link TV.
Well, thank you for joining us on TKNN Reports. Next week, we present the first in our Hardline series.
