President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday meant to curb the hiring of foreign workers and increasing the hiring of American citizens. Trump stated, “The buy and hire American order I’m about to sign will protect workers and students.”
“It’s America first, you better believe it. It’s time. It’s time, right?” Trump asked the crowd of Snap-On employees and technical students.
The executive order also attempts to promote American-made goods as opposed to foreign products. The executive order was written in response to Trump’s pro-American worker statements during his presidential campaign. Trump signed the executive in Wisconsin on his first trip to the state since becoming President.
The order will to a review of the federal H-1B visa program for skilled workers with the ultimate intention of reforming the program. The Administration says that corporations abuse the program to hire cheaper international labor. The executive order will also lead to federal agencies reviewing their purchasing policies and states that “it shall be the policy of the executive branch to maximize” the purchasing of American-made products.
