One of America’s closest allies is preparing for a transfer of power. Also, for the first time in seventeen years, France will have a President from the Socialist Party. When voters headed to the polls, they rejected the austerity measures pushed by Angela Merkel of Germany and President Sarkozy. President-elect Francois Hollande has said that more spending is needed and several agreements need to renegotiated. However, Prime Minister Merkel says that several of those agreements, including the austerity measures, are non-negotiable. The election could be played by the Democrats, saying that extreme cost-cutting measures will get you one place, out of office.
