Dr. Jill Stein Facing Arrest Over Protest

Green Party presidential nominee Dr. Jill Stein and her running mate, Ajamu Bakara, after the two vandalized bulldozers during a protest in North Dakota.

The Morton County sheriff’s department says that the two are charged with criminal trespassing and criminal mischief.

Stein said in a statement, “I hope the North Dakota authorities press charges against the real vandalism taking place at the Standing Rock Sioux reservation: the bulldozing of sacred burial sites and the unleashing of vicious attack dogs. I hope they take action against the Dakota Access Pipeline company that is endangering drinking water not only for the Standing Rock Sioux, but for millions of people downstream of the reservation who depend on the Missouri River.”

Stein and Bakara were protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline and Stein spray-painted “I approve this message” on a bulldozer.

The sherrif’s office also says video shows Bakara spray-painting “decolonization” as part of the sentence “We need decolonization.”

North Dakota police have issued arrest warrants for the two.

This will not be the first time Stein has been arrested during a presidential election. Stein was arrested three times during the 2012 presidential election. Once protesting foreclosures, another time trying to enter into the presidential debate, and the final time was when she was attempting to deliver food to Keystone XL protesters.
