Planned Parenthood announced in a tweet that they will be endorsing Hillary Clinton for the Presidency.
“We’re excited to announced we’re endorsing @HillaryClinton! She’ll lead on #reprorights. #PPact4Hillary #ImWithHer” it read.
This is the first time that Planned Parenthood has backed a candidate during the primaries.
“Hillary Clinton holds the strongest record on reproductive rights of all presidential contenders in not just this election, but in American history, she doesn’t just support women’s health — she has been a proactive leader on expanding access to women’s health care.” said the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
Clinton is expected to officially accept the backing at a rally in North Carolina on Sunday.
“I will defend a woman’s right to choose, and I will defend Planned Parenthood,” Clinton has said in the past.
NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC, among other pro-choice groups, has also endorsed Clinton.
Clinton has also tweeted support for Planned Parenthood.
“If any of the GOP candidates were president today, Planned Parenthood would now be defunded & the ACA repealed. We can’t let that happen. -H” read one tweet.
Planned Parenthood and its federal funding has been the target of House Republican inquires following videos that showed officials selling aborted baby parts.
