Former Governor George Pataki (R-NY) announced his presidential run this morning with a campaign video.
Pataki previously served three terms as the Governor of New York after defeating Governor Mario Cuomo. He was the governor during 9/11 and gained national attention during that period.
Pataki is a moderate Republican and he has made fighting climate change a key campaign issue.
Pataki is the eighth Republican to announce a presidential run. He is also the second Republican in two days to announce a run. Former Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) announced a presidential bid yesterday.
Pataki does not register on national polls and is not included on Real Clear Politics’s 2016 Republican average. Pataki would need to clear the 1 percent threshold in order to qualify for CNN’s first presidential debate.
