Senator Ted Cruz Announces 2016 Presidential Run

Over the past few days, it has been reported that Senator Ted Cruz would announce a 2016 presidential run today with a speech at Liberty University. While he did announce a run today, he did so with a tweet on Twitter.

Last night, Senator Cruz tweeted about exciting news around midnight. Then at 12:09 ET, Cruz announced his run and asked for people’s support.

Cruz also linked to an introductory video. The video is full of Americana and speaks of restoring the American promise, a common Republican theme over the last few cycles. The video also has a montage of a diverse group of citizens.

Cruz is the first candidate to completely jump in. Other candidates have formed exploratory committees or are merely acting like candidates. Doing so at this time of the year allows Cruz’s campaign to take advantage of the second quarter fundraising window. Images have been circulating online of an image that shows an invite to a fundraising event for Cruz, featuring the Senator and his wife. TKNN cannot confirm the authenticity of the photo.

Cruz’s website, TedCruz.Org, has been relaunched for his presidential campaign. Previously, it was mostly bare. Now, it has an introductory section, a news section, pages for different issues, and the Cruz for President logo.

Ted Cruz will have a more formal announcement at Liberty University later this day. It was originally expected that he would announce his run there.
