Early Results Show Barber Leading In Race To Replace

The special election to replace Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was held today. Early results show Ron Barber, the Democrat, leading by several percentage points. There is over 50% of the vote in, and Ron Barber is leading by eight percentage points. TKNN is projecting that Ron Barber will win the seat, keeping it in Democratic hands. Rep. Giffords resigned in January to focus on her recovery. She had been shot the previous January, leading to several killed and injured during a “Congress on your Corner” meeting. Rep. Giffords, who has stayed out of the public eye since her resignation, came out along with her husband to campaign for Ron Barber. Ron Barber was an aide to Rep. Giffords and was injured, too. His opponent, Republican Jesse Kelly, was Rep. Giffords’s 2010 opponent.
