FEC filings show that former presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. Newt Gingrich is $4.3 million dollars in debt, and Rick Santorum is nearly $2 million dollars in debt. It can months and even years to get rid of campaign debt. Earlier this year Tim Pawlenty was able to close up shop after retiring his debt.
