Senator Cotton: Have “Perspective,” Iran Hangs Gays

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) was on CNN’s The Situation Room today and he spoke about the religious freedom law in Indiana while also touching on a potential nuclear deal with Iran. He said that LGBT community members need to get “perspective” when thinking about the religious freedom law and remember how much worse it is in other places, like Iran.

“In Iran they hang you for the crime of being gay,” he added. “They’re currently imprisoning an American preacher for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in Iran. We should focus on the most important priorities that our country faces right now. And I would say that a nuclear armed Iran, given the threat it poses … is the most important thing we could be focusing on right now.”

Senator Cotton also urged people to focus more on the potential nuclear deal rather than the law in Indiana. The religious freedom act has dominated the news this week.

Senator Cotton has been criticized for his comments. Singer Miley Cyrus linked to his comments on Twitter and the tweeted out the Senator’s phone number. She urged her followers and fans to call and stir trouble (or a certain s word) up.
