Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) has passed away at the age of 89. The senator was the last World War II veteran serving in the Senate, and he died from pneumonia. The sitting senior Senator from New Jersey has served for thirty-one years, except for a brief two year intermission. Earlier this year, Lautenberg announced that he would not be running for re-election. This move came after Newark Mayor Cory Booker announced he was looking at running at the seat.
