Savannah Guthrie filled in for Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News this evening. Holt, who is currently filling in for Brian Williams during his six month suspension, was unable to appear due to a family emergency. Holt has been anchoring Dateline, Weekend Today, and NBC Nightly News weekdays and weekends for the past few weeks without a break. Guthrie regularly substituted for Williams and has been floated as a possible replacement for Williams, should he not come back.
Some have wondered whether tonight’s appearance could serve as a test for Guthrie. However, she has guest anchored several times before and NBC News sources for us and other websites indicate tonight is only due to Holt’s family event.
