Bernie Sanders Wins New Hampshire Primary

Eight years after New Hampshire revitalized Hillary Clinton’s struggling presidential campaign, voters struck it a blow on Tuesday night. Senator Bermie Sanders won the state with 59% compared to Clinton’s 38%, at the time of the publication.

The race was called quickly for Sanders. Networks and TKNN called the race shortly after polls closed at 8 PM ET.

Sanders is the first Jewish and first non-Christian candidate to win a major party primary. Voter turnout was he and the deputy Secretary of State said it may be record-breaking. Final turnout numbers will be available in the coming days.

Politico has reported that the Clinton may now undergo a campaign shake-up of its communications and digital efforts. Hillary and Bill Clinton have both expressed displeasure with those efforts, according to the report.

The Democratic race is now a national race as it shifts to the West and South. The next two nominating events are the Nevada caucus and the South Carolina primary. Initial polling shows Clinton in the lead in South Carolina. South Carolina could pose a problem for Sanders due to its large number of minority voters. Sanders has struggled with African-American voters and the campaign is looking to secure several high-profile African-American endorsements in an effort to close the gap with Clinton.
