Iran Deal Comes Into Effect

The Iran nuclear deal went into effect Sunday.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action stated that Adoption Day would be 90 days after Finalization Day. Hence the deal starts October 18th.

The countries which agreed with the deal include Iran, the United States, Germany, France, Britain, China and Russia, along with the European Union.

“I hereby direct you to take all necessary steps to give effect to the U.S. commitments with respect to sanctions described in (the Iran deal),” President Obama stated in a directive.

Steps that Iran must take to adhere to the deal include reducing the number of uranium-enrichment centrifuges in operation and cutting down the amount of enriched uranium in their possession

“Reduce its stockpile of low enriched uranium by some 98 percent, either shipping it out of the country or diluting it down to its natural state… Remove thousands of centrifuges from the enrichment facilities at Natanz and Fordow, leaving a total of 5,060 working centrifuges… Take out the core at the Arak heavy water reactor and fill it with concrete. The reactor will eventually be converted so that it produces only a minimal amount of the other main nuclear fuel, plutonium.” reads the deal.

“Today marks an important milestone toward preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and ensuring its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful going forward,” President Obama said in a statement.

While the Iran deal does begin to take effect today, its process of taking full effect will take several years.
