Charles Krauthammer Passes Away


Charles Krauthammer, an influential conservative intellectual leader, passed away on Thursday. He was 68.

Less than two weeks ago, Krauthammer revealed in an open letter to readers of his Washington Post column that his cancer had taken a turn for the worse and he had only weeks to leave.

“I believe that the pursuit of truth and right ideas through honest debate and rigorous argument is a noble undertaking,” he wrote at the time. “I am grateful to have played a small role in the conversations that have helped guide this extraordinary nation’s destiny. I leave this life with no regrets.”

Marty Baron, the executive editor of the Washington Post which has published Krauthammer’s weekly column since 1985, tweeted, “A huge loss to vigorous and civil debate on public policy.”

Krauthammer also had a nightly presence on Fox News’s Special Report with Bret Baier as part of its All-Star Panel. Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and friend, Charles Krauthammer. A gifted doctor and brilliant political commentator, Charles was a guiding voice throughout his time with FOX News and we were incredibly fortunate to showcase his extraordinary talent on our programs. He was an inspiration to all of us and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beloved wife Robyn and his son Daniel.”

Fox News also announced that they will air a special commemorating his life on Friday at 9 PM. The Washington Nationals, which Krauthammer was a noted fan of, also honored him on Thursday with a moment of silence before the game.
