Consumer Reports Shutters Consumerist Website

fourth estate newConsumer Reports announced on Monday that it was shuttering Consumerist, a popular consumer rights blog. The consumer review group also laid off all 28 employees via a conference call while saying in a blog post and release that Consumer Reports will continue the “same great coverage of consumer issues” and “thoughtfully incorporate key elements of Consumerist content.”

In an emailed memo to staff, Consumer Reports CEO Marta Tellado said that that the merging Consumerist and Consumer Reports would be “bringing key elements of Consumerist content onto CRO.” She did not explain how she intended to bring said “key elements” while laying off all the staff.

The Consumerist’s archives will be moved over to Consumer Reports.

A spokesperson for Consumer Reports did not respond to a request for comment on why there were layoffs.
