Greta Van Susteren Joining MSNBC

Greta Van Susteren will complete the cable news trifecta on Monday when she begins broadcasting on MSNBC. The cable news outlet announced on Thursday that Van Susteren, who left Fox News in September, will start hosting a weekday news program starting next week. The show will air at 6 PM, filling With All Due Respect’s former timeslot.

The new show is an hour earlier than Van Susteren’s previous show, On the Record. Her new show will be called For the Record with Greta. Van Susteren, like soon-to-be timeslot competitor Wolf Blitzer, has had her first name emphasized in recent years. Her Twitter handle, where she is quite active, is @greta and she owns Greta.com.

For the Record will be based in Washington, D.C., and her timeslot will be one of the few where all three of the cable news programs air out of the nation’s capital. CNN’s Situation Room and Fox News’s Special Report both air from Washington and air politically-focused.

“Greta is a true pro with a proven record of tough journalism,” MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement.

“Her broad range of experience and sharp news judgment will be of great value to MSNBC as we build on our momentum going into a new year and a new administration.”

“I’m thrilled to start my next chapter at MSNBC,” Van Susteren said in a statement.

“The network is the right destination for the smart news and analysis I hope to deliver every day, and I look forward to joining the talented journalists and analysts I respect there.”
