HLN Deflects on Election Night 1

election-nightFIRST ON TKNN: While heightened interest regarding the 2016 presidential election has led to viewership spikes for the cable news networks, HLN will be counter-programming with no election coverage. During Election Night, HLN will air a marathon of Forensic Files with Primetime Justice with Ashleigh Banfield preempted. Throughout the marathon, HLN will have an on-air graphic telling viewers that election coverage can be found on HLN’s sister channel, HLN.

The HLN decision shows the unique advantages HLN and CNN have as sister networks. HLN is able to attract an audience by counter programming without cannibalizing CNN’s audience, in fact this may benefit CNN’s viewership numbers.

HLN will have live news coverage until 3 PM ET at which point the Forensics Files marathon will start.

HLN is not completely ignoring next week, however. There will be “Election Express” segments airing from Monday through Wednesday during HLN’s news coverage. The day after Election Day, HLN’s Morning Express with Robin Meade will start an hour earlier at 5 AM.
