The date is officially set for President Obama’s final State of the Union. Speaker Ryan has officially invited President Obama to address a joint session of Congress that night.
The White House has accepted the invitation.
“As we look ahead to the new year, we have both an opportunity and an obligation to find common ground to advance the nation’s interests at home and abroad. We also owe it to the American people to present solutions that address the challenges they face,” Ryan wrote.
The State of the Union will be one of the President’s last major opportunities to seize the news cycle before the 2016 presidential election takes full swing. The Iowa caucus is scheduled for February 1.
