Donald Trump Gets Help from Across the Pond

brexitOn Wednesday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump got help from former United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage. Farage has not formally endorsed Trump, but the struggling presidential candidate, who deemed himself “Mr. Brexit” in a tweet, tried to draw comparisons between the American election and Great Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.

Trump re-emphasized his America First slogan and said that November 8 offers an opportunity for Americans to “re-declare American independence.” That language is similar to what the pro-Brexit forces as Farage and others said that Britain voting to leave the European Union was their “Independence Day.”

Farage took a shot at President Obama, who had openly advocated for Great Britain to remain. “He talked down to us. He treated us as if we were nothing,” Farage said at the rally in Mississippi.

Farage then turned his attention to Trump’s opponent, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. “I will say this: If I was an American citizen, I wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton if you paid me. I wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton if she paid me.”

The member of Parliament also addressed the polls that show Trump down by several percentage points. Farage brought up his experience of how the polls were projecting a Remain victory, “And actually they were all wrong.”

“Remember, anything is possible if enough decent people are prepared to stand up against the establishment.”

Trump also tried to explicitly tie together the two men’s campaigns. “I was very supportive of their right to do it and to take control of their own future, like we’re going to be voting for on November 8th.”

Farage then thanked Trump online for his “tremendous introduction.”

“Decent people can beat the establishment!” he tweeted.
