Ben Carson Claims Prisons Turn People Gay

Dr. Ben Carson, who announced a presidential exploratory committee on Monday, appeared on CNN’s New Day earlier today and was asked about his opinion on same-sex marriage. Carson said reaffirmed his view that being gay is a choice and pointed to prisons as evidence of that. He said that many people “go into prison straight — and when they come out, they’re gay.”

Carson was also asked by anchor Chris Cuomo whether or not being gay is a choice. Carson responded, “Absolutely.”

Carson also spoke about same-sex marriage. He said that the reason the LGBT community advocates for marriage equality is so that they can take advantage of the rights associated with marriage. Carson said he believes that couples should be allowed those rights, but they would not use the marriage label.
