Republicans Take Lead in 2014 Polling

In a reversal from last month, Republicans have taken the lead in generic 2014 midterm polling. In a poll from CNN/ORC, a generic Republican had a two point lead over a generic Democrat among registered voters. CNN noted that this was in contrast to last month’s generic polling, which had a Democrat leading, 50% to 42%. The shift could be attributed to the news cycle. Last month was dedicated to the government shutdown, which hurt Republicans. This month, however, was dedicated to the botched Obamacare rollout, which hurt Democrats. Analysts point out that opposed to the temporary government shutdown, the Obamacare website problems could last, and therefore affect Democrats, much longer. Although, Democrats are saying that a year is a lifetime in the political and 24/7 news cycles.
