Lugar Facing Uphill Battle For Re-Election

Tomorrow could be the beginning of the end of Senator Dick Lugar’s long Senate career. One of the longest-serving Republican Senators, Sen. Lugar’s seat has been targeted by the Tea Party. The Tea Party-backed Richard Mourdock has the endorsements of Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, and the NRA. However, Sen. Lugar has the endorsement of Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and previous Republican presidential nominee, fellow Senator John McCain. If Senator Lugar does get defeated tomorrow, his Senate seat could flip to the Democratic column. Polling shows Sen. Lugar would easily defeat his Democratic rival, Joe Donnelly. However, Richard Mourdock against Joe Donnelly is a tie. In 2006 Democrats did not even nominate a candidate against Senator Dick Lugar. As time goes on, the tide has been going more against Senator Lugar; and in this anti-incumbent election year, he could get drowned.
