Arizona, home of Sen. John McCain and once thought to be a Republican stronghold, is up for grabs. The state’s rising Hispanic population has been favorable to Democrats. A recent poll has President Obama trailing Mitt Romney by only two percentage points. The lead is well within the margin-of-error, 4.4 percentage points. Many predictions have Arizona as a safe or weak Republican hold. However, this latest poll shows otherwise. Senator John McCain, who was the Republican nominee in 2008, endorsed Mitt Romney before New Hampshire’s primary. Senator John McCain also won reelection with 58.7% of the vote. Since then, the Hispanic population has grown and Democrats’ chances have also grown. Republican leaders have seemed to laugh at any suggestion of Arizona being competitive, however Democrats think the state is fully in the swing column. Or weak Republican at most.
