Gun Control Measure Defeats Filibuster in Senate

senateIn a 68-31 vote, the Senate succeeded in a cloture vote that ended an anti-gun control filibuster. Several Republicans voted for cloture, including Sens. McCain, Flake, Kirk, and Toomey. Senator Pat Toomey was part of the compromise on background checks, he had worked with Democratic Senator Joe Manchin. Two Democrats, Sens. Begich and Pryor, voted against cloture. The two Senators come from red states that President Obama lost, and are also both up for re-election in 2014. With the cloture vote passed, the bill will eventually get voted on.
