With a vote appearing to take place on January 22, outside groups are ramping up their fight to change the filibuster. When the Senate reconvenes on Tuesday, the Senate will began debate on, and presumably vote on, changing the filibuster. The change is being spearheaded by Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Tom Udall (D-NM), and they would like to force Senators to speak in order to filibuster a bill. Now, with the vote coming up, pro-reform groups are trying to ensure that the reform succeeds. The Daily Kos sent emails out to supporters in states where their Democratic senator (s) have not publicly announced support for the measure. The Communications Workers of America has also put up ads telling Senator Reid to support the measure. Also, the blog, AMERICAblog, has been posting the phone numbers of Democratic Senators who may vote against the measure.
