The Eight Senators Who Voted “Nay”

Eight senators, from both sides of the aisle, voted no on the bipartisan fiscal cliff deal that passed 89-8. The members that did vote no are usually ranked as either the most liberal or most conservative members of the Senate.

  • Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO)
  • Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE)
  • Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)
  • Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA)
  • Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)
  • Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)
  • Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
  • Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL)

Five were Republicans, while the other three were Democrats. While Iowa has the distinction of having both senators vote against the bill.
