Rep. Jesse Jackson has resigned from Congress. He submitted his letter of resignation to Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today. A Boehner aide has told the Hill that the Speaker received the letter and the Associated Press confirmed the report. CNN is reporting that Rep. Jackson will announce his resignation from the House floor. The resignation is most likely part of a plea deal, Rep. Jackson is under investigation for campaign funds misuse.

The Representative easily won re-election over his two opponents, despite being away from the hill since June. Rep. Jackson has been getting treatment for his bipolar disorder at the Mayo Clinic. Since checking in, he has largely stayed out of the public eye.

Governor Pat Quinn (D-Il) has five days to schedule a special election. The district is mostly Democrat, but Republicans will most likely make a play for it.
