Former Vice President Dick Cheney had a bust of his likeness unveiled at the Capitol Building Thursday.At the ceremony both former President George W. Bush and Vice President Joe Biden made a few jokes to commemorate the event.
“I told mother and dad I was coming here for the bust unveiling, Dad perked up, and he said, ‘Send my best regards to old iron ass.'” said Bush.
Bush 43 had referred to Cheney as “Iron Ass” in his biography.
“I must confess I’m somewhat reluctant to come back to Washington. The last time I showed up here I was hanged in the White House,” Bush said, referring to his portrait being hung in the White House. “This time I’ve returned only to find my vice president getting busted in the Capitol.”
Biden, who had been political opponents with Cheney, said, “I actually like Dick Cheney,” which the crowd found humorous.
Biden talked about how, following the death of his son Beau, Cheney and his family showed nothing but kindness towards him.
Cheney had a few words to say. “Being cast in marble is something that every Vice President looks forward to,” said Cheney. “It’s not only a high honor, it’s our one shot at being remembered.”
