The wife of Amadou Ali, Cameroon’s vice prime minister, has been kidnapped by the Boko Haram militant group. Three others were killed in the raid. Boko Haram, whose name translates to “Western education is a sin,” also kidnapped a large group of schoolgirls earlier this year. That kidnapping led to worldwide outrage and the hashtag, #BringBackOurGirls. Cameroon’s Minister of Communications has said that others were kidnapped in the attack as well. Al Jazeera has reported that Seini Boukar Lamine, a local religious leader and mayor, was also kidnapped in his home, but that it was a separate event.
