New York Times Concludes Glenn Thrush Investigation

fourth estate newFollowing the conclusion of the New York Times’s investigation into Glenn Thrush’s alleged misbehavior, the news organization has announced that the reporter will return to a different beat following his suspension.

Executive editor Dean Baquet said in a statement, “Glenn has behaved in ways that we do not condone.”

“While we believe that Glenn has acted offensively, we have decided that he does not deserve to be fired.”

Thrush, who has been suspended since November, will return to the organization in January. However Thrush, who was hired by the Times to serve as one of their main White House correspondents, will not return to the White House. The Times has not announced what beat, or area, he will cover when he returns.

Thrush oftentimes partnered with fellow Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman and the two were working on a book about the Trump Administration for Random House. Random House announced on Wednesday that the book will move forward with only Haberman.

Thrush will receive training for workplace conduct and also continue substance abuse rehab and counseling.

Thrush did not respond to a request for comment.

Some questioned why if Thrush was being allowed to return, he was being moved to a different beat. Others compared it to NBC News’s handling of Brian Williams when he was suspended for inflating personal stories. Following his suspension, he was removed from NBC Nightly News and was moved to MSNBC to serve as breaking news anchor.

Thrush was suspended following a report from Vox that featured a blend of first-person account and reporting on others. Times bureau reports complained of that combination to Vanity Fair’s Joe Pompeo.

MSNBC has not commented on Thrush’s status. He has been a contributor to the network, but they suspended him pending the Times’s investigation.
