Fox News Dominant Broadcasting State of the Union


fourth estate newAnchored by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, Fox News had the dominant State of the Union broadcast, winning both the advertiser-friendly 25-54 age demo and total viewers.

Fox News’s viewership in the demo and total viewers during the State of the Union surpassed both the broadcast networks and cable news outlets. According to Nielsen Media Research, Fox News averaged 3.3 million viewers in the 25-54 demo and 11.5 total viewers from 9 PM to 10:30 PM ET. CNN had 1.3 million in the demo and 3.1 million total viewers. MSNBC delivered 659,000 in the demo and 2.7 million total viewers.

Among the broadcast networks, NBC News had the strongest ratings (even though they lost to Fox News overall). NBC News had 2.6 million in the demo and 7.1 million viewers. CBS had 2.1 million demo viewers and 7 million total viewers. ABC News delivered 1.8 million demo viewers and 5.4 million total viewers. Finally, the Fox broadcast network delivered 1.5 million demo viewers and 3.6 million total viewers.

Among the business news channels, Fox Business covered the State of the Union address while CNBC went with a Shark Tank rerun. Fox Business had 102,000 demo viewers and 572,000 total viewers, a record for the network’s State of the Union coverage.
