UNESCO and Media Organizations Mark World Press Freedom Day

As part of a UNESCO-led movement, thirty-three news organizations have come together to advertise each other. The ads encourage readers to “Read More. Listen More. Understand More.”

The ads are being promoted by the various news organizations. Most of the organizations involved are based in the United States, but there are some international news organizations. Looking at the American outlets, there is a mix of national and local news outlets and outlets based in the middle, left, and right.

“The more time you spend with rigorous, fair sources of journalism, the more sustainable those news organizations become,” New York Times chief operations officer Meredith Levien wrote in a Medium post. “Hand-wringing and bellyaching doesn’t protect great newspapers — or our democracy.

“Your eyeballs and dollars do.”

2018 is the 25th celebration of UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Day.
