CNN Inks Distribution Deal with Hulu for Original Series

fourth estate newSeveral CNN Original Series and Films will be coming to Hulu as the two signed a distribution deal. This is the second deal between CNN and Hulu for Original Series as one had been inked for Race to the White House.

The new deal includes seasons one of The History of Comedy, Declassified, and Crimes of the Century, both seasons of United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell, and seasons one through three of This is Life with Lisa Ling and The Hunt with John Walsh.

The films 9/11 Fifteen Years Later and The End: Inside the Last Days of the Obama White House will also be coming to the streaming platform.

Several of the shows have already popped up on Hulu since the deal was announced on Monday. CNN says the remainder of the shows will be gradually added to Hulu over the summer with the exception of The History of Comedy that will arrive this winter. The History of Comedy is airing some of its episodes for the first time this summer after their original first-run dates were delayed by breaking news.

Several CNN Original Series are on Netflix and not covered by the Hulu deal. Those shows include Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, The Sixties, The Seventies, and The Eighties. A TKNN inquiry to CNN about why some were on Netflix versus CNN went unanswered.

“We are pleased to extend our partnership with a trusted brand like CNN,” Lisa Holme, head of content acquisition for Hulu, said in a statement.

“Their powerful story-telling is best in class and we are very happy to offer even more of their programming to Hulu viewers.”

“Our goal for these content brands was to bring the strong, journalistic sensibility of CNN to premium nonfiction content,” Amy Entelis, executive vice president for talent and content development for CNN, said in a statement.

“So, we couldn’t be more pleased to partner with Hulu, which values that high-quality content proposition as well.”
