Chris Matthew Lands Interview with President Obama

fourth estate newMSNBC has announced that host Chris Matthews will interview President Obama on Tuesday. The interview will then air later that day on Hardball, Matthew’s show.

The network says that the two will tackle free trade and other topical news bits. Free trade has become a key issue on the left in recent weeks as President Obama works to pass the TransPacific Partnership and gain fast-track authority. Progressives and their allies in Congress, such as Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) have been trying to fight the President on this topic. Typically, free trade agreements are supported by Republicans and opposed by Democrats. Democratic support typically comes from the moderate wing of the party.

The interview, being billed as an exclusive, could help Matthews in the ratings on Tuesday. Matthews and MSNBC as a whole has been suffering in the ratings, placing either third or fourth behind HLN. Matthews regularly places third, behind CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront and Fox News’s On the Record with Greta van Susteren.
