FIRST ON TKNN: Last month, Politico reported that CNN was experimenting with a new weekend panel show based around John King. The show was tentatively named The Source with John King, and featured political reporters from various news organizations discussing political news. Now, it appears like CNN is giving the show a chance on the night of the State of the Union. CNN’s press release announced:
“Late night coverage will continue with State of the Union: Postgame with Jake Tapper providing perspective from the evening’s address and response. After that, King puts the final touches on the network’s coverage as he and top political reporters from news organizations discuss how the President’s priorities will be impacted by the midterm elections.”
The program’s description matches that of the show. The show’s title remains to be seen, however this will likely serve as a test for the potential program. At the time of Politico’s report, CNN was experimenting with late-night programming. Good ratings could lead to the show airing on late-night weekdays, as opposed to weekends.
